WELCOME
Looking for a quiet place to relax or recharge for a few days, or an interesting overnight destination on your road trip? What about checking out Storm boy country?
Welcome to SAMPHIRE. Samphire is off-the-grid accommodation, two hours drive from Adelaide, 45 minutes from Tailem Bend and three hours drive from Mt Gambier via the Limestone Coast. Meningie is 10 minutes drive away, a town that has attractions and shops and eateries.
Situated on the edge of the Coorong National Park, a unique natural environment of lagoons and sandhills, we offer a comfortable home-away-from-home, or a convenient base for water activities or exploring the national park and region by foot or by car. There is a "special something" about the Coorong that is difficult to fully appreciate if you just drive past sightseeing through the window. Come and stay at Samphire and sink into that "special something" as the sound of traffic is replaced by the sounds of wind and birdsong and the street lights are replaced by the moon and the stars.
The guest suite is a comfortable and compact attached apartment. It is comprised of two bedrooms and features a kitchen for your use, or you can put the catering in our hands and have some, or all, of your meals cooked for you. See Food. We will put as much effort, or as little, as you require to enhance your visit.
The guest suite has a private entrance, a garden and outdoor relaxation areas all dedicated for guest use. Smoking is not allowed in the property.
We are developing a vegetable/herb garden and an orchard so that we can provide seasonal home grown produce.
We endeavour to be environmentally responsible. Our property is off-the-grid (solar powered), and we collect rainwater for all our uses. Our efforts include the provision of environmental products for your use.
Off street parking is available.
Pets are welcome.
Your hosts are Neil and Gabriele.

THINGS TO DO : PLACES TO GO
THINGS TO DO : PLACES TO GO
Walking - Most people enjoy the simplest of pleasures: walking Seven Mile Road, which looks out over the Northern Lagoon, or wandering along the beaches and rocky areas of the shore-line.
There are also a number of formal walking tracks in the near vicinity and also close to Meningie. We can provide information.
Bird Watching - There is often fun and games in the garden with babblers, honeyeaters and wattle birds squabbling.
The main focus of the bird watchers here is the foreshore. Ducks, gulls and small shore waders can be seen every day, and often there are large numbers of pelicans. The list of occasional visitors is long: terns, stilts, stints, dotterels, herons, ibis, egrets, cormorants, spoonbills, avocets, jacana, plovers, sandpipers and lapwings ... among others.
The Night Skies - Sometimes the sunsets are stunning. Later standing in the garden in the dark and enjoying a star-filled sky untainted by the loom of city lights is magical.
Bike Riding - Seven Mile Road is largely unsealed and the tracks in the area that can be ridden are sandy, so a bike with fat tyres would be necessary.
The Water - The Coorong is shallow so kayaks and small dinghies with outboard motors are favoured. There are many rough launch sites around, or you could carry and launch across the beaches and rocks. Pottering, fishing and crossing the Coorong to the Younghusband Peninsula are all possible.
Driving - There are a number of launch ramps and picnic sites actually on the Coorong that can be accessed by car, or you could choose to go further afield, to Meningie on Lake Albert, to the beautiful beaches further south, or to the wineries in the Langhorne Creek region or the Southeast of South Australia.
Golf - The golf club at Meningie is attractive and welcoming. 18 holes. Par 72. $25 daily green fees and carts for hire. https://www.lakealbertgolfclub.com.au
